Touch Basics

The overall aim in a game of Touch is for your team to score more touchdowns than your opponents. This is achieved by placing the ball in your opponent's touchdown zone.

Played officially on a rectangular field 70 metres long by 50 metres wide, a game of Touch is played over 45 minutes; divided into two 20 minute periods with a five-minute halftime break.

Touch is a sport that can be modified so as to suit the skill level; age, time and field space available.

Touch is played on grass, indoors and beach Touch offers a really fun alternative.

FIT Touch Malaysia has a national "learn to play" program called ModTouch – a modified sports initiative designed for teachers, parents and young people who are eager to teach kids the basics of the game and get them active.

Teams can include up to 14 players in a team with a maximum of six players on the field at any one time. Competition is played at age levels and in categories for males, females and mixed.

Teams must move the ball down the field toward their `touchdown' area without passing the ball forward, dropping the ball on the ground or kicking it. Each team has six `touches before they need to handover the ball to their opponents.

When ‘touched’, an attacker must stop and perform a roll ball’, unless it is the sixth touch.

Defenders are required to move back a minimum of five metres when an attacker ‘rolls the ball’ or risk being called `offside’ by the referee.

Any infringements will result in either a re-start of the ‘Touch’ count or a ‘turn over’ whereby the ball is given to the other team and they restart play.
