Oceania Team wins medals in Australia

The Oceania Swimming Association selected a team of 5 swimmers to compete in the New South Wales and Tasmanian Swimming Championships in January 2004. The team was coached & managed by Angela Probert of Fiji & Bill Sakovich of the Northern Mariana Islands.

Swimmers selected to the team were Nina Mosley and Dean Palacios of the Northern Marianas, but Dean was not able to attend. Jolyn Buadromo, William Mar and Chad Miller represented Fiji, and Connor Keith from Guam.

The competitions began at the Sydney Aquatic Centre amidst very strong competition but the swimmers, although not winning any medals, did maintain rankings in the middle of the pack in some of their events, and Guam's Connor Keith made the only Final in the 50m Freestyle in a time of 25.04 for his15 year old age group. The competition was good for these swimmers as they learned what they needed to improve on for further international competition.

Four more days were spent at the Tasmanian State Championships with every swimmer taking home a medal and finaling. Chad Miller did well with two PB's two Silvers and one Gold medal in the 50m Breast, 100m Fly, and the 50m Fly respectively. Connor Keith won two Gold medals in the 50m Fly and 50m Free. William Mar swam extremely well with every swim a PB, and taking home two Silver medals in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke events, and finaling in all his other events. Jolyn Buadromo and Nina Mosley each won one Gold medal in the 50m Breast and 50m Free respectively. All placings were within their respective age groups, and more than half their swims were Personal Best times.

Nina also broke the NMI Age Group Record in the 100m Free and the National and Age Group record in the 50m Free. William Mar broke the Fiji National and U17 Records in the 100m Breaststroke and the U17 Boys 200m Breaststroke.

The trip was made possible through Oceania Swimming and Australian Swimming, and the swimmers very much appreciate their support for the much needed competition.
