Victory League Team of the Week – Round 14

A team full of firepower after goals galore in Round 14 of the Victory League

This week’s Victory League Team of the Week is in 3-2-3-2 formation.

There was so much attacking firepower on show in Round 14 that it is impossible to squeeze it all into a starting 11.

South Hobart have four represented from their emphatic four goal win, Kane Pierce returns to the Team of the Week with the weekend’s only clean sheet.

Tilford Zebras have two included from their 5-2 win with Alex Leszczynski unlucky to miss out despite a destructive display versus Glenorchy. The Knights were well led by Shae Hickey but he was also an unlucky absentee.

Olympia FC Warriors edged out Northern Rangers in a nail biter at Warrior Park and have two selected with their opponent having one feature in the all-star lineup.

Devonport City ripped apart Kingborough 8-1 and debutant Jake Gleeson and substitute Michael Holden both hit braces but neither could squeeze into the lineup.

Goalkeeper: Kane Pierce (South Hobart)

Pierce kept the only clean sheet in Round 14 of the Victory League. Did what he had to when tested and distributed well from the back.

-

Right Back: Liam Scott (South Hobart)

Scott was unleashed into the middle and was authoritative through midfield but was selected at a position he plays to great affect at the back this week to fit in the host of attacking weapons. He was confident in possession, while  providing drive and involving teammates, including an assist for Hugh Undy’s goal.

Centre Back: Alex Holmes (Olympia FC Warriors)

Holmes made his first start since returning from Brazil and it was a gooden, netted with his head early and defended diligently to limit the Rangers opportunities on goal.

Left Back: Kurt Engels (Tilford Zebras)

Engels returned from injury and bossed the game down the left flank. Combined well with his brother, was uncompromising in defence and explosive when pushing forward.

-

Centre Defensive Midfield: Harry Thannhauser (Northern Rangers)

‘The Town House’ pulled the strings for the Rangers in front of the northerners back four. Showed composure and passed with precision to find feet in traffic.

Centre Defensive Midfield: Lachlan Nichols (Olympia FC Warriors)

Nichols was key in slowing the tempo, controlling possession and dictating terms in a second half that saw the Warriors collect three points for the first time against the Rangers.

-

Right Midfield: Andy Brennan (South Hobart)

Hit a hat trick in another explosive outing on the wing for the table toppers.

Centre Attacking Midfield: Callum Moore (Devonport City)

Assisted four of Devonport’s eight and netted one of his own as he shredded the Lions defence to pieces.

Left Midfield: Brody Denehey (Devonport City)

Denehey was put on notice by his Coach mid-week but was delivered a reprieve with illness seeing Michael Holden start on the bench. Denehey took his chance, netting a hattrick to star in the 8-1 win.

-

MITSUBISHI MOTORS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Right Striker: Ethan Engels (Tilford Zebras)

Engels exemplifies Zebras' hot streak, with the striking hit red-hot form and was again the week’s Player of the Week, repeating last week’s heroics, striking home a first half hat-trick to wrap up the result for Zebras within 45 minutes.

Left Striker: Brayden Mann (South Hobart)

Mann took his tally to 19 goals at the top of the PFD Golden Boot with a four goal haul that took an okay day at the office for South Hobart to an emphatic smashing, hammering home two of his four late to add misery to a difficult day for Launceston City.
