The last two containers have taken off for the 2007 Nationals in Perth

Our containers have now set off to Perth for the 2007 Flying Eleven Nationals at Nedlands Yacht Club.

After a rather awkward and lengthy delivery in pouring rain, with truck access denied via the Margret St gates by illegally parked vehicles, and with the National President running (with 2 reconstructed knees) back up Margret Street in front of two reversing semi-trailers, along Woolwich Road and back down Clarkes Point Road to the upper gates of the Harbour Trust's land named the "Horse Paddock", the containers were finally dropped off right next to the Hunters Hill Sailing Club ready for the remaining 20 Flying Elevens to be packed away for the Nationals on 5-12th January 2007.

The two trucks had great difficulty getting back out of the "Horse Paddock" up the hill in the rain. They would make it only half way up before sliding sideways off the already rough and heavily eroded driveway onto the grassy hills. If you can imagine, seeing two semi-trailers falling sideways off a road is pretty concerning to all, but they eventually managed to succeed and were off after 4 hours of rather traumatic moments. They suggested we make other arrangements for the pickup!

Peter Kendall inspied many hands to contribute to the packing process on Sunday 17th Dec; adults and kids sawing, drilling, measuring and framing up the racks to house the 20 boats 3 levels high and four rows deep inside the 2 x 40 foot containers. With only centimetres to spare, we shut the doors of these containers after 4 hours of pretty fancy teamwork and a few laughs to boot. It was looking a bit of a mystery bet to many who arrived to help pack the boats in the initial stages of the programme, but Peter and his cohorts managed to find space for everyone's little babies, as well as a few sundry items too.

To avoid the same drama of the drop-off, we barricaded the Margret Street cul de sac (which was clearly marked no parking anyway) on Sunday and prayed that these would do the trick and keep the access clear for the trucks collection the following day. I can tell you I didn't sleep too well Sunday night just wondering what might face me when I arrived at the Margret Street entrance this morning at dawn. Not a problem as it turned out but I could only think what might have been a problem when our fleet would be left in the "paddock" and unfortunately missing the boat over to Perth.

All's well that ends well they say!

Below are the packing details of these two containers for your information.
