Athlete Profile: Michelle Dowling for Team Norfolk

Michelle Dowling is from Norfolk Island. She is 26 and has played as a representative for Norfolk Island since she was 15 years old. Her netball experience was mostly local level at Norfolk Islands and she has also played against touring New Zealand teams. Michelle was also a member of the team for the Mini South Pacific Games in 2001.
This is her first South Pacific Games experience and she is enjoying the Games tremendously. Although she injured her knee in their game with PNG the previous day, it has not dampened her spirits and has not stopped her from playing.more

Athlete Profile: Opheira Harder for Team Samoa

Opheira Harder is the co-Captain of the Netball Team of Samoa. She is pictured here with her proud father Su'a George Harder after the Team Samoa Netball's close win over Papua New Guinea. Yesterday, Opheira confidently led her Team to win their game against Cook Islands. Today, they will face Fiji in the finals for Gold and Silver medals. Ofeira is a 31 year old young lady who has had extensive club experience in New Zealand having played top club level netball. She played as a member of Northern Force for 2 years and in the Auckland Diamonds team for another 2 years, during the netball premier league competitions.more

It was a battle of the titans when Fiji met Papua New Guinea (PNG) in the last round of semi final matches in the South Pacific Games (SPG) Netball Tournament. Today the Norfolk Island Netball team visited Fuluasao Reserve opposite the Faleata Athletics Complex to plant a tree each. Thirteen trees were planted by the girls as part of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment (MNRE), South Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) and United Nations in the Pacific, "Play it Green and Clean" campaign.more

Nine Ready for World Cup Warm Up

The 2007 South Pacific games Netball competition will be effectively a warm up for the World cup for the Region's Giants, Samoa and Fiji.

Great suppport from the Pacific will be on hand with 9 countries in all indicating that they want to head to Samoa for the competition.

Apart from regulars; Fiji, Cook Islands, Samoa, Norfolk Island, Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Tokelau and Niue have also entered their names.
