The Secretary General of the International Archery Federation (FITA), Mr Tom Dielen, has arrived from Switzerland in time for the first day of competition at Faleata Archery Field. He said that Samoa should be 'very proud' of what they have achieved in staging the event.
It is a significant show of support from FITA for the 2006 Oceania Championships, being hosted by the Samoa Archery Association for the first time.
Mr Dielen, previously Executive Director of FITA (1996-2002), has held the position of Secretary General with the sport's international governing body since 2005.
He has been competing in Archery for 17 years (Recurve and Compound) and is now member of the Swiss Archery Association (ASTA). He has also been acting as the President of ASTA Sports Commission and as Vice President of Lausanne Archery Club.
Tom Dielen's Archery involvement also includes his acting as member of the Organizing Committees at the World University Archery Games (1993), European and Mediterranean Archery Indoor Championships (1996), World Curling Championships (2001), and at many other national events in Belgium and Switzerland.
