Warriors men & Saints women 2006 Fiji Champions

After 15 hours of basketball on the Lautoka courts, Tailevu Warriors men and Suva Saints women were crowned worthy 2006 Fiji Champions.

Fiji Youth Team trials held conducted

Basketball Fiji used the National Championships as the first round for identifying squad members for the National Youth teams to represent Fiji at the Oceania Youth Tournament in October. Selectors observed players during the round games and in trials.more

60 games completed in one day at Lautoka

Although the rain on Friday dampened the spirits of the players and officials, Saturday turned out to the biggest basketball day in the life of the Lautoka courts.

Almost 60 games of basketball were played over 15 hours to decide the 2006 Champions.more

Saturday morning and the sun is shining

Teams arrived early this morning to complete yesterday's round of games. Organisers are confident that the full compliment of games and finals will be completed tonight. With extensive lighting on the outdoor courts, it will be possible to play late.more

Torrential rain stops basketball games

Just as the fourth round of games was underway on Friday, torrential rain caused the cancellation of the day's games. Disappointed teams were asked to return at 8.00am Sunday morning to play out the Friday draw. Games will now run into Saturday night.more

Devotion service opens the Championships

The Lautoka organising committee for the National Basketball Championships conducted a devotion as part of the opening ceremony. The Assembly of God choir, led the ceremony, before changing into their basketball gear to take to the courts.more

Organisers have everything in hand

The Lautoka organising committee for the Fiji Games have everything ready to go, and are looking forward to the influx of players. Basketball Fiji president, Culden Kamea, will arrive in Lautoka this afternoon for a final inspection of facilities.more

16 Men's teams and 8 women's team all set to go

16 men's and 8 women's teams are looking forward to the 2006 Easter Championships which will be held in Lautoka. The championships have not been held for the past two years, so teams are ready to take to the courts in pursuit of gold for their district.more

Basketballers set for big shots in Lautoka 2006

Basketball Fiji is expecting up to 28 teams to participate in the 2006 Fiji Games Basketball program over Easter.

Association secretary Lucy Singh has been full of praise for the work being done by the organising committee in the west.more
