Fiji scores a runaway win over Tonga

Fiji played neighbors Tonga in the first game of Day 3. National Coach Alison Southey was pleased with the result of the game. Fiji settled early and played a more structured game than in earlier matches. Their passes were better directed and they made better use of available options, creating spaces which worked well for them. Goals scored were mainly by deflections.

Review of Fiji's matches on Day 2 of the competition

Fiji played two games on Day 2 of the tournament. The first game of the day featured the Women's match between the Solomon Islands team and Fiji. Fiji won the game 8 - 0. In the second game of the day, Fiji played against Samoa and were pressured from the start by the Samoan team which were fielding more experienced players than they had encounted to date.

Kookaburras Not Getting Carried Awa

Kookaburras coach Colin Batch isn’t getting carried away with Thursday’s 5-1 win over New Zealand and knows the Black Sticks will be a different proposition for Sunday’s Oceania Cup final.

Australia booked their spot in Sunday’s decider (from 5.30pm) with Thursday’s win at Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre, with the Kiwis likely to join them as they are heavy favourites to beat Papua New Guinea


Following the second day of competition, the likely finalists for Intercontinental 5s Women's competition is likely to be Fiji and Australian Country with Vanuatu Men taking on Australian Country in the Men's finals.
In the Oceania Cup - Australia and New Men and Women have qualified for the finals which will be played on Sunday 15th October.

Hayward Fires Kookaburras Into Oceania Final

The Kookaburras have defeated New Zealand 5-1 at Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre on Thursday night to claim a spot in the Oceania Cup Final. Jeremy Hayward scored two goals from penalty corners, while Jake Whetton, Tom Craig and Dylan Wotherspoon were also on the scoresheet. The result made it two wins from two matches for Australia after Wednesday’s 30-0 victory over Papua New Guinea.

Vantage Black Sticks overcome by Kookaburras

The Vantage Black Sticks Men have been defeated 5-1 by hosts Australia in their opening match at the Oceania Cup in Sydney.
The world number two ranked Kookaburras took a narrow 1-0 lead into halftime before scoring two goals in each of the third and fourth quarters.

Hockeyroos Crush PNG To Clinch Final Spot

The Hockeyroos have qualified for Sunday’s Oceania Cup Final after a routine 23-0 victory over Papua New Guinea at Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre on Thursday night.
Emily Smith scored five goals in her first game as Australia captain, while Kathryn Slattery blasted a first-half hat-trick on her way to four for the match.

Vantage Black Sticks Women ease past PNG

The Vantage Black Sticks Women have made light work of Papua New Guinea with a 33-0 result in their opening game at the Oceania Cup in Sydney.
The Kiwis stormed out to a 20-0 lead at halftime and added another 13 goals in the second half with seven of those in the final eight minutes.

Kookaburras Cruise Past PNG In Oceania Opener

The Kookaburras have opened their 2017 Oceania Cup campaign with a comfortable 30-0 win over Papua New Guinea at Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre on Wednesday night.Blake Govers, Tom Wickham and Dylan Wotherspoon all scored five goals apiece in the victory ahead of Thursday’s clash with NZ.
Govers’ return to the international arena, having not played for Australia since the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Ateca Fatufago aims for International qualification

Suva umpire Ateca Fatufago was selected to the Umpiring panel for the 2017 Oceania Intercontinental Hockey 5s tournament which is currently being held at the Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre from the 11th - 15th of October. Ateca has been on the Oceania panel for a number of years and is getting close to qualifying as an International Hockey umpire.

The team took a little while to settle down and were trailing Australian Country 0 - 2 in the first third of the match. Emily Smith says it couldn’t have worked out any better that she will run out as Hockeyroos captain for the first time in front of family and friends in her home state.Smith was last month confirmed as the new Australia skipper, following Madonna Blyth’s retirement after the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The 25-year-old has 179 caps to her name and 68 international goals....

Knowles Previews Oceania Cup

Kookaburras captain Mark Knowles has previewed the Oceania Cup which starts in Sydney on Wednesday and says it’s a great chance to grow the game in the region.Australia will play New Zealand and Papua New Guinea in the three-team biennial tournament at Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre.
The Kookaburras will commence their campaign against PNG on Wednesday night from 8pm.

Fiji Women's team travel to Sydney

The Fiji Women's Hockey Team has left for Sydney on the 8th October to take part in the Intercontinental Cup (Hockey 5's) which is being run in conjunction with the biennial Oceania Cup. This is the last opportunity for the Women's team to earn valuable ranking points to give them a possibility of qualifying for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The team plays their first match on the 11th October .

Marist teams win own tourney

IT was a double celebration for the Marist Hockey Club after winning the women's and men's competition in the 2017 Geotech Drilling International Marist Hockey Eastgate tournament at the National Hockey Centre in Suva yesterday. Marist men's defeated Ventures 5-3 in the final with four goals to Xavier Guy and one to Scott Bentley in the final while the Marist women's team defeated Ventures 3-1.

MARIST hockey women's team defeated Ventures 3-1 in the penalty shootout to win the 2017 Geotech Drilling International Marist Eastgate Hockey Tournament earlier today.
Both the teams were locked nil-all after a normal time.
Marist also walked away with $1000 prize-money.

MARIST hockey men's club defeated defending champions 5-3 in the final of the 2017 Geotech Drilling International Marist Hockey Eastgate tournament.
The tournament was played at National Hockey Centre in Suva this evening.
Xavier Guy scored four goals while Scott Bentley scored one in the win.
