Start your own Badminton Club

If you are from the rural areas, have access to a large indoor facility and want to start your own Badminton Club, you could be eligible for FUNDING from the Samoa Badminton Association. We would be able to donate nets and rackets and also come in to mark out the courts using special tape. We would also be able to provide coaching and regular check-up visits. You will also get special funding from our mother body, Badminton Oceania for additional equipment and training.more

National Jrs Tournament : Day 2

Today concluded the singles tournament for the Boys and Girls Under 10 and Under 14 tournaments. As expected the games were tough and a test of skill and fitness. For the finals the kids played up to 21 points which made it more intense.more

In memory of Iko

A trust that offers hope to those who despair of living was the centre of a fundraising event last Saturday night.

The annual fundraising for the “Iko Memorial Trust” was held at the National University of Samoa.
The Iko Memorial Trust was established when a young man by the name of Alan Saitaeao (Iko) Pose, sadly took his life in September 2004.more

National Jrs Tournament : Day 1

Day 1 of National Jrs Tournament was excellent with about 20 entries. The kids were divided into U10 and U14
divisions. Players ranged between 5 and 13 years of ages. Schools included Apia Primary, Samoa Primary, Vaimoso Primary, Vaiala Beach School, Robert Louise, Manumalo Primary, Falefitu Primary School, Vaimea Primary and Vaivase Primary.more

After a tough two day training session the fruits of labour for 7 coaches were rewarded with the complete fulfillment of their coaching course. This included 6 coaches from Samoa and 1 from Fiji.more

Tony expressed his thanks for helping organise the visit. He was able to accomplish all his goals plus more. Another day another visit. This time to Vaimoso Primary school. The badminton delegate consisted of Tony (Badminton Oceania), Roneet (Fiji Badminton), Pule (President, Samoa Badminton) and AJ (Secretary, Samoa Badminton).

They were greeted by the Mrs 'Ele'elesā Saio-Reti (Princeple) and were quickly put to work with the kids. PE teacher Andrew was there to assist with badminton program.more

Day 1 - Coach Training

The first coach training session drop kicked off yesterday afternoon at 5.30 pm with 6 keen participants. The unfortunate late birds however, were disqualified. Each participant is required to be present throughout the full length of the course (3 hrs a day = 6 hrs). Originally a 7 hour course, Mr. Tony is squeezing it into the 6 hours he has available, so late comers were unacceptable.more

Meeting was held with Tony of Badminton Oceania and Roneet of Fiji Badminton as well as Pule (President) and AJ (Secretary) Samoa Badminton Association.

Mr. Tony Maudaunt, Oceania’s Badminton Development Officer in the country for 10 days from June 8th to assist with Badminton in Samoa. Possible areas he will focus on include:
• Run a coaching course
• Meet with your NOC,
• Help with the Juniors,
• Visit some schools
• Have meeting with Samoa’s Development Officer
• Help develop badminton in Samoa
• Discuss Samoa playing in the Oceania Championships & Pacific games
He will be accompanied by Fiji’s Development Officer, Roneet Lal.more
