Welcome to the Trailer Sailer Association of South Australia NOW IN OUR 50th YEAR!

TRAILER SAILER ASSOCIATION OF SA 50TH ANNIVERSARY 2017 On March 31,1967, the first meeting of the TSASA was held at the Largs Bay Sailing Club. The records state that it was “an informal gathering of people interested in forming an association for trailer sailer yachts”; the yachts back then being primarily Hartleys and Randalls. A motion was moved, seconded and passed to form the Trailer Sailer Association of South Australia. The initial focus was mainly on racing, but as membership grew and boats changed, cruising and social events featured more in the annual calendar. Today we have a strong Association of like-minded people where friendships are made, skills are learned and shared and all enjoy the thrill of being on the water.

The TSASA covers all classes of trailer sailers, almost any trailerable yacht that has a cabin where members may sleep and membership is open to anyone interested in trailerable yachting.

The aim of the TSASA is to promote safe trailerable yachting through a program of

Cruising allows the TSASA to travel to far-away places such as the Whitsunday Islands, Sir Joseph Banks Group, Tasmania, Gippsland and Coffin Bay as well as destinations closer to home such as the River Murray and The Coorong.

Racing events include the Rosebowl which is the flagship race, a handicap race sailed from North Haven. Other races are spread throughout the season and include the Women's Classic at Clayton, the Grecian Cup sailed from North Haven and the Adelaide Shores Classic from North Haven to the Adelaide Boat Club.

Social events are an important part of the club and include enjoyable meetings with guest speakers and bar facilies, the Opening Day celebration, the Annual Presentation Dinner, Christmas Picnic and numerous opportunities to socialise during sailing weekends.

Safety and skills development occurs in a friendly atmosphere designed to assist you. Useful information is made available through the Members Handbook, Safety Management Procedure, the monthely "Bilgewater" magazine, safety days, mentoring and guest speakers.

 Aims of the TSASA

  • Maximise members' use and enjoyment of their trailerable yachts
  • Offer an extensive program of on water activities
  • Learn from the collective wisdom of the membership
  • Improve on sailing skills and local knowledge of our waterways
  • Learn to cope under different sailing conditions

Background of the TSASA

The Trailer Sailer Association of SA Inc began in 1967 when a group of trailer sailer owners met at Largs Bay Sailing Club to form an association. The founding officers were Peter Moore, Don Hodgson, Graham Gibbs, Tom Gluyas and Hartley Wilkinson. They owned home built and timber boats, mainly Randell 20's, Hartley TS18's and TS16's.
