Baseball
History
Baseball was one of the 21 sports included in the first Alice Springs Masters Games in 1986. The Alice Springs Masters Games was then known as the Honda Central Australian Masters Games. The baseball coordinator and motivator for these initial Games was Geoff Bell.
Geoff has been coordinator for baseball on and off for the past 10 years. He has recently retired, in January 2008 and relocated to Townsville with his beautiful wife Stephanie.
During Geoff’s time as coordinator he worked tirelessly throughout the games umpiring, scoring and as a canteen worker. Alice Springs Baseball will miss his input into the games.
Baseball is played during the day and at night under lights, with games concluding at 11.30pm.
Over the years baseball has been blessed with having teams/players from Guam, USA and each State and Territory within Australia.
Over the years baseball has been played at two venues, Lyel Kempster Baseball Park and Alice Springs High School. The 2008 games will only be played at Lyel Kempster Baseball Park with a restriction on team numbers.
We hope that all baseball players enjoy the friendly games as well as the competition.
