Rangers and Warriors Share the Spoils

A Lucas Hill goal in the 83rd minute was enough to earn Olympia a point, as they fought back to claim a 2-2 draw with Northern Rangers at the NTCA ground. After Gordon Gurson had given Olympia the lead in just the third minute of the game, Rangers worked their way ahead thanks to goals either side of half-time from their star attacking duo of Daniel Cristy and Nick Lanau-Atkinson. But it was not enough to claim the win as Hill struck late on to keep the gap between the two sides at 6 points.

Gurson’s opening goal was an eye-catcher. The American showed his slick dribbling skills to somehow weave between the defence before dinking one over the top of the advancing Whatman and into the back of the net.

Adhar N’gor nearly levelled for Rangers when he hit the post but his captain did the job shortly thereafter as Nick Lanau-Atkinson equalised. The skipper was on hand to pounce after Thannhauser’s blocked shot fell right into his path.

Olympia has been a strong second half side in 2018 and that transpired once again as they took over the game in the second stanza and created a number of good scoring chances.

Sam Whitman was proving a tough obstacle to overcome though and pulled off a number of big saves to keep the scores level.

Then against the run of play, it was Daniel Cristy, who bent one from distance to perfection, beating Johnson and handing his side the advantage with time ticking down.

But Olympia’s control of the game would eventually tell thanks to a strike from Lucas Hill from even further out! Helped by a deflection it was nonetheless a quality strike in a game filled with them.

It was a result that will leave both sides a tad flat. On balance, Olympia will feel they should have walked away with all three points, whilst Rangers will be frustrated to have slip a second big scalp in as many weeks.
