Deanna (Doccy ) Smith officially retires as a player

At our Hawks SBL season launch over the weekend, Lady Hawks Head coach – Deanna (Doccy Smith) officially announced her retirement from playing basketball.

After over 20 years playing basketball at a professional level, Deanna called time on her career and what a career it has been.

Doccy as she is known in the basketball world, started her playing career in 1996 with the Melbourne Tigers and this career took her from winning the 1999 championship with the AIS alongside Lauren Jackson and Penny Taylor, to over 260 WNBL games under her belt, with Canberra; Adelaide; Perth , Sydney & Bendigo. She was also a member of the Opals Squad from 2005-2010, playing over 60 games for her Country.

Deanna also played basketball in England, Portugal; Russia & Italy during her 20 year career and represented both Cockburn Cougars and the Perry Lakes Hawks in close to 100 games in the State basketball League Games (SBL).

Over her career, Deanna has chalked up many achievements including: 

 

  • 2 x WNBL Championships (1999,2000)
  • 3 x WNBL All-Star Five (2005,2009, 2010)
  • SBL Championship with Perry Lakes Hawks (2008)
  • SBL Grand Final MVP (2008)
  • SBL MVP (2008)
  • 2 x SBL All Star Five (2009,2015)

Perry Lakes Hawks applaud Doccy on an outstanding basketball playing career and we look forward to seeing her in her new role as a Head Coach of our Lady Hawks in 2017.
