PS4 NPL TAS Team of the Week Round 3

Congratulations to Joseph Zupo, the big Canadian winning the Mitsubishi Motors Player of the Week for Round 2.

Goalkeeper

Mathew Dyson- Clarence United

Only had the one save of note in the first half, making a good leg save to deny Huigsloot, but was absolutely peppered in the second half and produced a number of quality saves. Can’t be faulted for any of the goals conceded, and if not for his fine work between the sticks then it could have been a lot worse for his side.

Defence

RB- Dwayne Walsh – Hobart Zebras

Was rugged in defence for the first 45 minutes but when he switched to the right wing in the second half he had a profound impact. Scored a spectacular goal when he burned through the Clarence defence from halfway and could have had 2 if not for the woodwork. A barnstorming display, with his pace and power causing Clarence all sorts of issues.

CB- Henry Moody– Hobart Zebras

One of the most attack minded centre backs the league has seen, Moody always seems to be in the thick of the action at both ends. Against Clarence he defended well and caused a number problems from set pieces before smashing in a late volley to cap his stellar display with a goal.

CB- Nathan Gratton – Devonport Strikers

Another week, another imposing display at the back from a man who has not missed a beat since making his return to top flight Tasmanian football. His ability to time his challenges along with his aerial dominance was firmly on display as he helped his side continue their strong start to the year.

LB- Kieran Mulraney- Devonport Strikers

Cheating here by putting him on the wrong flank, but Mulraney was the stand out fullback of the round, producing a great two way display. His goal was a just reward for a tireless performance, consistently linking up with his teammates in attack yet rarely did a Launceston player get in behind him.

Midfield

CM- James Sherman- Hobart Zebras

Sherman has been a revelation in his deeper midfield role this year and added some real steel to the Zebras midfield. In the second half against Clarence he pushed on and helped consistently drive the attack. His set piece delivery was also outstanding and he was unfortunate not to have a (legal) goal of his own.

CM-Jack Turner – South Hobart

A handful of goals for Turner as the all action midfielder took full advantage of a struggling Rangers side to slot a lazy five. His ability to arrive late into the area and avoid attracting markers was uncanny. It looks as though he might have added another string to his bow in terms of what he can offer in an attacking sense.

AM- Thomas Bellini – Olympia FC Warriors

Given his first league start of the season, the young attacking midfielder will surely be in line for a lot more of them after a glittering display down at the den. The skillful Bellini scored one and played a role in plenty more as his quick feet unlocked the Lions back four time and time again.

AM- Lawrence Shuruma– Olympia FC Warriors

After a disappointing first half he hit his stride in the second half and tore apart the Lions with a clinical display. Having been moved onto the right flank he helped himself to four goals, including a contender for goal of the week.

Forwards

ST- Brayden Mann, Devonport Strikers

Three goals and it could have been more, it was a scintillating display from the prolific goalscorer as he did what he does best. Following his six goal haul in the cup earlier in the week it’s fair to say that Mann has found his shooting boots once more and should start rising up the goalscoring charts.

ST- Alex Leszczynski – South Hobart

Has been a staple of the team of the week so far this season and after a hat-trick on Saturday he isn’t going anywhere. Was too big and too strong for the Rangers back four to deal with as he went one better than the back to back braces he started the year with.
