The week eighteen “Kickz101 Perth” Men’s SBL Player of the Week has been awarded to Seb Salinas of the Joondalup Wolves.

Sharp shooter Seb Salinas is arguably in career best form throughout 2014 and was exceptional for the Wolves on the weekend in their tough double-header.

Friday night saw the Joondalup Wolves host the Kalamunda Eastern Suns out of the Joondalup Basketball Stadium. Salinas was outstanding for the home side, top scoring for the Wolves with 19 points which included 3 triples, 11 rebounds and 2 assists to lead his team to a 38 point victory 124 to 86.

The Wolves, sitting one game outside of the top eight had to quickly refocus their attention to their second game of the weekend at the Mandurah Aquatic & Recreation Centre on Saturday night with a crucial match up against a star-studded Mandurah Magic outfit.

Saturday night’s game was an absolute nail-bitter, a high scoring affair which couldn’t be split after four quarters and was sent into overtime. Salinas hit fire and proved to be the difference between the two sides in the end, leading all scorers with 37 points to go with 7 rebounds and 8 assists as the Wolves were victorious 120-113.

Salinas has been one of the most efficient and consistent performers this season in the SBL, currently averaging 24.9 points, 9.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game, while shooting at 43.9% from the field.  

The Wolves now sit in eighth position on the MSBL ladder and will be hoping Salinas can continue his form as they take on the Tigers in a must win game at home this Saturday night.

The week eighteen “Kickz101 Perth” Women’s SBL Player of the Week has been awarded to Gabby O’Sullivan of the Perth Redbacks.

On Saturday night the Perth Redbacks women broke their season’s duck thanks to an incredible performance by youngster Gabby O’Sullivan.

It’s been a tough year for the Redbacks women after they lost their former all-star centre Marita Payne to Cockburn in the off-season and started a development phase under newly appointed head coach Stuart Budd.

Saturday night marked the Perth Redbacks 50^th anniversary as a club, and the women’s team was eager to break their winless record of eighteen straight games in 2014 against the South West Slammers at the Belmont Oasis Recreation Centre. O’Sullivan was huge for the home side, recording a game high 32 points along with 10 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals to lift the Redbacks past the Slammers for their first win of the season 88 to 78.

Since returning on a break from her US college Coastal Georgia, O’Sullivan has given the Redbacks roster a huge boost averaging 15.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.

In 2013 Gabby O’Sullivan was named the SBL’s most improved player and at just 20 years of age is looking to be a star of the future.
