Hazel, Payne take Player of the Week
Hazel and Payne will receive a $50 voucher for PowerPlay Sports in Subiaco after both led their sides to impressive wins last week.
Hazel led Rockingham to a shock 112-94 win at Goldfields with 40 points and seven rebounds, making a staggering 10 of his 16 three-point attempts.
The Rockingham import, who is a product of Long Beach City College in Southern California, is averaging 18.8 points per game for the Flames since he signed for them in the last weekend of April.
Perth’s Jesse Wagstaff was also in contention, with the 2009-2010 NBL Rookie of the Year getting 31 points in his side’s 102-98 win against Mandurah Magic.
Payne had 27 points to lead Perth to a 79-68 win over Mandurah in Waroona, her second highest points total since making her debut in late April.
The mid-season acquisition is averaging 19.6 points and 11.7 rebounds per game for Perth, which moved up to fourth with its victory over Mandurah.
Also in contention was Australian Central East Perth Eagles player Ashley Gilmore, who put up a triple-double in her side’s 86-81 loss to Wanneroo with 21 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists before getting 27 points, 12 rebounds and six steals in its loss to Willetton.
