Zamroz caps off perfect month

Ryan Zamroz of the Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers and Dana-Renae Jones of Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks have claimed the PowerPlayers of the Month awards.

Zamroz and Jones have won $50 vouchers from PowerPlay Sports in Subiaco for their outstanding performances this month.

Southlands Willetton Tigers swept the Coach of the Month awards, with Glenn Clarke winning the women’s award and Shayne Hampel the men’s, and both also won $50 PowerPlay Sports vouchers.

Zamroz averaged 30.5 points per game over six games to win the men’s player award.

The American guard led the Buccaneers to a 4-2 record in April and is a big reason for its early success in his first season with the club.

He beat former Melbourne Tigers centre Daniel Johnson of Willetton, who averaged 26.4 points and nearly ten rebounds over the month.

The terrific form of Jones led Perry Lakes’ women to a 3-0 record in April.

Jones helped the Hawks recover from a disappointing start to the season with 19.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game over the month.

Southside Mitsubishi Perth Redbacks’ Brooke Hiddlestone (19 points and 15 points per game over the award period) and Mandurah Magic’s Casey Mihovilovich (26.3 points per game) were unlucky not to claim the prize.

Hampel has led Willetton’s men to a 9-3 start this year and its 5-2 record in April saw it climb into top spot and establish itself as one of the title favourites.

He beat Lakeside Lightning coach Andy Stewart to the award, with his side going 2-2 between rounds four and seven and just two games behind top spot.

Willetton’s women’s climb to top spot ensured Clarke claimed the Coach of the Month award.

The Tigers won all six games in April and have now won nine straight, giving Clarke the prize ahead of Australian Central East Perth Eagles coach Anthony Fletcher.

The awards are based on performances between rounds four and seven.
